Not a second to waste: PM Modi gets down to work hours after oath; holds meetings with foreign dignitaries

The PM also interacted with world leaders present at the swearing-in after high tea and banquet hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind. Taking to his Twitter account the PMO tweeted, “Today’s oath-taking ceremony was made even more special by the presence of respected world leaders. India is honoured by their special gesture.”

From BCCI to Union Cabinet: Anurag Thakur enters 'big' league

New Delhi:  At an election rally in Himachal Pradesh earlier this month, BJP president Amit Shah promised to make Anurag Thakur a "big leader" if voters in Hamirpur elected him with a record margin. They did. And Shah kept his word, with Thakur being sworn in as a Union minister on Thursday. Son of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, Anurag Thakur had won the Hamirpur constituency for the fourth time by defeating Ram Lal Thakur of the Congress by nearly four lakh votes, a record margin for the constituency. He had got a vote share of 69.04 per cent by bagging over 6.8 lakh votes.

Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter breaks out between security forces and terrorists in Shopian, operation underway

Shopian:  A fierce encounter has broken out between security forces and terrorists in Dragad Sugan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday morning. The joint operation by police and army began after the terrorists opened fire when the forces were conducting a search operation.  One terrorist has been neutralised in the encounter and the operation is underway. Reports of stone pelting also emerged while security forces where conducting a combing extercise in the area. The encounter comes two days after another incident in Kulgam where terrorists opened fire when a joint operation by police and army was underway. The Kulgam encounter was reported from South Kashmir’s Tazipura village and involved terrorists belonging to the Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba,  Times Now  reported.

BJP trying to create divide between Bengalis and non-Bengalis, says West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

Naihati:  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday urged the people of the country to raise their voice against the "torture of BJP" and accused the saffron party of trying to create a divide between Bengalis and non-Bengalis in the state. Banerjee also warned BJP against making any attempt to impose President's Rule in West Bengal by toppling her government, saying that if "they try to muzzle her government's voice, no one will be a bigger enemy than me." The TMC chief said she "hates BJP" and said people would seek "revenge" against the BJP for the post poll violence against her party's workers since the Lok Sabha election results were announced.

As PM Modi takes oath, BJP Delhi website hacked; menu bars replaced with recipes of beef dishes

New Delhi:  The website of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi wing was hacked for a short time and hackers changed the menu and pages of the website with recipes of Beef dishes, with a message on the main page saying: Hacked by 'Shadow_V1P3R'. The homepage of the website was edited and the word BJP was replaced with the word BEEF. For example, "About BJP" has edited and changed to "About BEEF", BJP History has been changed "BEEF History".

After BJP’s landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections Modi visited his home state Gujarat on a two-day visit and met his mother and sought her blessings. The PM’s mother stays with Modi's younger brother in Raisan, Ahmedabad.  After taking his oath PM Modi has now become the third prime minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to return for a second successive term with a full majority. While his first term as the PM was about “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, in an address to the newly elected NDA MPs at the Central Hall of the Parliament Modi added "sabka vishwas" which is seen as an effort to reach out to Muslim community.

Sushma Swaraj won’t join Narendra Modi Cabinet 2.0

New Delhi:  Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will not join the Narendra Modi government in its second term. While Swaraj has arrived at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to attend the oath-taking ceremony of PM-elect Narendra Modi and his Union Council of Ministers, she is not seated on the dais where the new members of the Council of Ministers are seated. Earlier, Swaraj did not attend the tea party hosted by PM-elect Modi at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence for the new members of his Union Council of Ministers.

New Delhi:  Narendra Modi on Thursday, May 30, took oath as the prime minister of India for a second term. Modi was administered the oath of office and secrecy by President Ram Nath Kovind. Soon after PM Modi took oath, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) put out its first tweet and said, “Shri @narendramodi has taken oath as the Prime Minister of India.” The PMO Twitter handle attached a picture of the PM taking the oath.

Amit Shah to get on board Modi Cabinet?

Sources said Mr. Shah is keen on retaining the top party post. However, his presence in the Union Cabinet -- which would tweak the old “one man one post” rule of the BJP -- is also being considered. Congress not to send spokespersons for TV debates for a month

Party president Rahul Gandhi is learnt to have told senior leaders to look for a replacement for him within a specific time frame. The Congress on Thursday announced its decision not to send spokespersons and media panelists for any television debates. “.@INCIndia has decided to not send spokespersons on television debates for a month,” tweeted Congress communication chief Randeep Surjewala.

Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony tomorrow

Congress  president  Rahul Gandhi  and UPA chairperson  Sonia Gandhi  will attend  Narendra Modi  swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported. Earlier in the day, West Bengal chief minister  Mamata Banerjee  announced that she will not be attending the event, citing that  BJP had sent an invite to those affected by Bengal “political violence” The BJP has invited family members over 40 party workers, who were killed in political violence Bengal in the last few months, for Modi’s oath taking as the PM for a second term.
