Akali Dal leader writes to PM Modi on 1984 anti-sikh riots, demands apology from the Central government
Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a judicial inquiry into how circumstances were created by the then Indira Gandhi government against Sikhs to execute Operation Blue Star in 1984. He also mentioned that the Sikh community is expecting an apology from the Indian government for the "barbaric" operation.
In the long letter, Sirsa requested the Prime Minister to appoint a sitting judge of the Supreme Court to set up the inquiry. He went on to add that people across the world want to know the reality of the Operation Blue Star and what all happened behind the curtains. "How the then Indira Gandhi led government evolved circumstances leading to attack and how she conspired; all information related to this operation should be made public," he wrote.
